Manifesting:

Manifesting as a Sacred Path:

the Emperor’s New Clothes
or an Authentic Path?

Introduction: This is my second article about manifesting your truest desires. The laboratory for these teachings was my nine-day Vision Quest in the wilderness canyons of Zion National Park under the April-May skies of the Taurus grand alignment. The first article gave an overview of the inner labyrinth this Vision Quest took me into. In this second article, I fast-forward to the end of my Vision Quest, sharing with you a way of comprehending manifesting which can empower you.

I hope to inspire you to embrace manifesting as a profoundly deep and life-affirming process -- in fact, as a complete spiritual path, and certainly a “worthy adversary” for cultivating your Soul qualities at the same time you are enjoying your desired outcome. (Note on language: When I use the word manifesting, I mean the creation of positive, expanding, life-affirming outcomes. Obviously, we are “manifesting” all the time, but I am talking about deliberate manifesting.)

Manifesting as the Emperor’s New Clothes?:

Ask lightworkers, cultural creatives, and those on the Path about manifesting, and you are likely to see a momentary tightening around the eyes. Most have tried various manifestation techniques. Some will say: “been there; done that” throwing it aside like a broken toy. Others will groan, and express world-weariness about manifesting.  Still others will be bitter about being duded by the hype, yet failing to manifest anything. Some may swear by it. Some have resigned themselves to low incomes (belief: you cannot be a light worker and be rich!). Is manifesting, then, like “the Emperor’s New Clothes”?

Ask lightworkers: “Do you create your reality?” Oh yes! Ask them: “Can you manifest your dreams?” Notice the guardedness in their response. Many have chosen a spiritual path that deliberately shuns goal setting, deliberate manifesting, and above all, desiring. And there may be perfect reasons for this choice, having to do with past lives or other broad perspectives. Then again, the choice may be a guard against the pain of unfulfilled desire. As the guide Abraham says, “Summoning up our desires is just too painful when we do not manifest them. Most people just stop summoning the desire.”

Manifesting as an authentic Spiritual Path:

This guardedness around the subject of manifesting has a good reason. I will make a bold statement (that applies to me as much as it may apply to you): the reason that our manifesting has had only partial success is because we have not embraced manifesting as a total sacred path. But rather, we have viewed, and tried to use, manifesting as a quick-fix.

Manifesting is not a technique, gimmick, or quick-fix. I recently attended a Whole Life Expo and paid my  $25 for a workshop in New Age manifesting. We were guided to go to the seventh dimension, command Source to give us what we wanted, thank God, and then come back into our bodies. The workshop leaders then told us that we had just altered our lives. I am not currently evolved enough to be able to successfully use such a technique, and I do not see many of my fellow seekers able to do so either. And there may be an additional reason that such a technique is often unsuccessful.

I have come to understand that most manifesting techniques (tools, processes, systems, books, seminars) approach manifesting from the flawed premise that you can manifest something without changing yourself. Sure we want that better relationship, health, or career but without doing the dedicated work of raising our vibration to match the new energies we want (in astrology, this would be seen as avoiding the work of Saturn).  We want to transform the contents of our life, without changing the process itself. Einstein said: “you cannot solve a problem from the same level of thinking that created the problem.” Likewise, you cannot manifest a new state from the old state you’ve been in.

If manifesting is not a quick fix, and cannot be successful without authentic transformation, then what is it? Manifesting is a way of relating ourselves to the Great Mystery of Incarnation. Manifesting is a high calling to do sacred work. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word became flesh. The Bible also talks about Christ as “God made manifest.”

Incarnation is the great mystery. The bringing of the Light into Form is the great gift and challenge that we have chosen as incarnated spirit. To bring vision into embodiment is the work of the Gods. As spirit “descends” into denser and denser form, Light finally coalesces as matter.  Manifesting is one of the most powerful ways to get aligned with such a sacred calling.  The universe, or Unifying Field, is seeking to expand more fully, to increase Life, and to manifest all of its inherent gifts. By manifesting, we align ourselves with this primordial activity. In fact, our desire to manifest is precisely the Unifying Field’s primordial urge.

In another article I wrote for PLW, I listed ten possible requirements for an authentic spiritual path. Manifesting meets and exceeds every one of these requirements. In short, manifesting is not a gimmick, but an authentic spiritual path. Manifesting is a high calling to a sacred work.

Manifesting as a core spiritual practice:

All authentic spiritual paths require a core practice. Manifesting is no different. The practice of manifesting is the means by which we walk our talk. The fascinating and challenging thing about the core practice of manifesting is that it is precisely accountable – either you do, or do not, manifest your desired outcome! There is no fuzzy area, as there is in most other spiritual practices (i.e., in Zen, am I really more awake or not?). Attempting to manifest “puts it on the line” because there is a bottom-line that can be measured. In this sense, manifesting is a more exacting and demanding core practice than any other that I have experienced. To manifest is a high initiation.

Manifesting as a “worthy adversary” to develop Soul Qualities:

Like any authentic spiritual path, like any core spiritual practice, manifesting is a “worthy adversary,” because to succeed at manifesting, all of our highest and best spiritual qualities are required. Let’s take a closer look at why manifesting is a worthy adversary and some of the soul qualities required by manifesting:

·       To manifest you have to be able to clearly  know what you want. SOUL QUALITY: VISION.

·       To manifest, you have to be able to release old and limiting beliefs to move to a higher level of vibration. SOUL QUALITY: DETACHMENT

·       Authentic Manifesting requires that you align your desires with the highest good for all. It is wisest to manifest something for yourself only if it increases life for all. SOUL QUALITY: DISCERNMENT

·       In manifesting, it is crucial to be able to trust that, even if the desired results has not appeared yet, it is on the way  (much like trusting that  seeds planted in a garden will sprout soon). SOUL QUALITY: TRUST & PATIENCE.

·       Nothing accelerates a particular manifestation like being grateful. SOUL QUALITY: GRATITUDE.

·        When we try to manifest something, we are confronted with the part of us that does not believe we can have this new manifestation. We must work authentically with this part of us (not just deny or override it). SOUL QUALITY: INCLUSION.

·        To manifest, we must use our will power correctly to bring ourselves to a state of greater Light, rather than trying to change something or someone else. SOUL QUALITY: CORRECT USE OF HIGHER WILL

An Exceptional Time to Manifest:

This is an exceptional time to be work, play, and experiment with manifesting. The mystery school tradition states “As above, so below.” That means what is happening in the skies above us, is also happening in our inner being. In the skies above, Jupiter is conjoint Saturn. Translation: the archetype of expansion, manifesting, and abundance is harmonizing its energies with the archetype of groundedness, structure, and coming into form. So at this time (and indeed for the next year) we have a heightened opportunity to bring together, or unify, our dreams with reality.

Bottom-line:

If you are one of those light workers who has gotten cynical about manifesting, now is the perfect time to re-open your heart – but with a twist. When we are willing to let go of the shortsighted and ego-driven need to possess a thing, we can move into a different understanding of manifesting. Our power to manifest grows in exact proportion to understanding the process of manifesting as a high calling and an authentic spiritual path, with all of the rigors, growth requirements, and initiations therein.
